Five Maintenance & Inspection Methods for Ball Mills

Source:News Time:2026-07-03

The ball mill is important equipment in the grinding production line. It uses the movement of steel balls to pulverize raw materials. In order to ensure proper maintenance of the ball mill equipment, improve maintenance quality, and guarantee the safe and economical operation of the entire production line, the following maintenance procedures for the ball mill have been established. It mainly includes the following five points.

1. Inspect Inlet and Outlet Seals

Disassemble the front and rear hoppers, check whether the inlet and outlet sealing devices are intact and whether there is any leakage. Place the two halves of the clamping ring together on a flat plate to check for deformation. If deformed, correction must be carried out.

2. Inspect Inlet and Outlet Hoppers and Short Sections

Check the wear condition of the inlet and outlet hoppers and short sections. For localized wear on hoppers, patching should be performed, and the inner surface of the patch must be flush. If the short section wear thickness exceeds 2/3, it should be replaced with a new one.

3. Precautions for Discharging Steel Balls

Remove one liner from the inlet end and secure the ball ejector to the end cover. Start the ball mill to discharge the steel balls. After the discharging is complete, be sure to cut off the power supply.

4. Inspect Liner Wear Condition

When the liner wear exceeds 2/3 of the original thickness, all liners should be replaced. For localized liner fractures or penetration, partial replacement should be carried out. Loose or broken bolts should be tightened or replaced.

5. Maintenance of Hollow Shaft Sleeves

Check whether connecting bolts are broken or missing. If so, replace or complete them. The spiral threads of the hollow shaft sleeve should not wear beyond 30% of the original height and 60% of the original thickness. If exceeded, either the threads should be partially replaced or the entire hollow sleeve should be replaced.
